Hello, Parents!
My name is Emily Thompson, and it is my joy to teach your children in my music class this year! Since I will be learning more about your child and hopefully have multiple opportunities to meet you throughout the school year, I want to tell you a bit about myself for you to get to know me better. I have a master’s of music education from Southern Methodist University, and I previously received a bachelor's degree in voice performance at Texas Christian University where I was fortune to get to perform in the Fort Worth Opera Chorus for multiple years. At home, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our dog named Uno. Whether we are taking walks around White Rock Lake or visiting and playing games with our families, we enjoy spending quality time with each other any chance we can get.
This is my first year teaching at (Abbett) Elementary, and I am so excited to nurture your child’s natural music abilities. In my class, your child will learn how to sing and sign solfege patterns, read a variety of note names in context, and how to express many rhythm patterns through body movement and instruments. Along with learning the music I teach them, they will also explore improvisation through singing, pitched percussion, and un-pitched percussion instruments while creating their own melodies. To bring out the most musicality in your child, you can encourage their inner maestro by singing and dancing with them at home. Do you currently or have you played an instrument before? If so, share this with them so they can learn about what connects you to music. You don’t have to be a professional at any of these things to share the music you love and pass the tradition onto your child so that they get the most out of my class and their musical experiences throughout their life.
If you ever have any questions or would like to work out a time with me to visit our class and watch your child create their own wonderful music, don’t hesitate to call or email me! It is an honor to work with your children, and I look forward to exploring and creating with them all year.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Thompson
