When using Orff instruments in classroom:
Walk around, not over the instruments when approaching them.
Only hold mallets when instructed, and keep them in their resting position when Mrs. Thompson is talking.
When holding the mallets, only use them to play the Orff Instrument in front of you.
When your turn is over, gently place the mallets down and return to your seat by walking around the instrument.
Entering the classroom:
Quietly walk to your assigned place on the mat.
Sit crisscross with your hands on your lap.
Wait for Mrs. Thompson to give you further instruction.
Restroom procedure for fourth and fifth graders:
Raise your hand if you need to use the restroom.
If given permission, take the bathroom pass straight to the restroom.
Return to class immediately after washing your hands so you don’t miss out on the fun!
When playing un-pitched percussion instruments in class:
Wait patiently to be called on to play.
When called on, walk to the instrument Mrs. Thompson assigned you to.
Only play when your given part in the song approaches.
Gently place the instrument back on the ground and walk back to your seat to participate with the rest of the class.
Participation:
Wrong answers are welcome in this class.
I encourage each of you to raise your hand any time you feel comfortable to answer.
If I haven’t heard from you for a while, I may call on you to answer.
Talk to me before or after class if you’re uncomfortable answering.
Asking for help:
Raise your hand in class if you don’t understand something and need help.
When working alone, you may ask your neighbor for help.
There is no such thing as a bad question!
During movement activities:
You should not be able to touch the objects around you.
You should not be able to touch the classmates around you.
Have fun, and control your limbs.
Phone policy for older students:
Phones should be kept in your bag in your homeroom class.
If I see anyone on his or her phone, I will kindly ask for you to put it away.
If it becomes a distraction, I will ask you to put it in the cubbies up front until the end of class.
Fire drill:
Stand up in the U-shape you’re sitting in.
Follow the classmate closest to the door in a single file and line up at the door.
In a single-file line, follow Mrs. Thompson outdoors.
Leaving the classroom:
At the end of class, I will call on the most still and quiet students to line up at the door in groups.
When you are standing at the door, quietly wait for your homeroom teacher.
Follow your homeroom teacher to your next class.
